History behind my Ceramic work

I started creating in low fire clays in 2012. I have found that working in these "mud clays" that constructing a sculpture is relatively quick, a few days to a few weeks, compared to creating one of my soft sculptures that can take up to 4 months to complete. I have no formal training in creating art of any kind. I do not have a BA, MA or a PHD. I do have friends that are accomplished in                       this ancient craft that I question from time to time.

To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.

- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Have you ever wondered why people make dolls, or why people collect them? How is it that l on every continent where there are humans you can find dolls. At times they are played with by children and sometimes they are used to represent deities or loved ones that have passed away. I began creating soft sculptures around 1991. I want to express my unknown African past in my work. I am self taught in this contemporary form of expression. Some of my creations take many months to complete and all of my creations are hand made and one of a kind.
